Updates

Our new premises on Foxes Bow is just amazing.

In the past couple of months our coordinator has gone to south afraica with the atlantic philantropists working group that she is part of and done some research there that might be helpful to us here in Ireland. She may be holding a south african information night soon.

Our Youth Worker has left us to go to a new and extremely challenging job in Athlone with the Atlantic Philantropists, which involves the setting up of new LGBTQ centres in areas that do not have them, but need them.

A bowling night as thank you to the volunteers with send of drinks for the youth worker was organised by the administrator and coordinator. The night was fun for all.

Rainbow Support Services held an open day which was very successful and had lots of new people walk in through our doors and find out about us.

Ms Gay Limerick will now to taking place at Riddlers Friday 18th June during the PINK weekend more details with follow in the next few weeks.  Interested contestants to contact Vanessa on 061 310101 during office hours no entry fee is needed.

Board of Management Training was sought and gotten, and most board members have attended on a regular basis and are almost finished their training.

Two new individuals joined our board of management, and we're very glad to have them.

Our Chairperson Ms. Bridgina Molloy is stepping down due to health reasons, and our PR person Mr. Conor O'Donnell has stepped down as he is off to America in the next couple of weeks.

We are still looking for individuals to come on the Board of Management.

Meeting for Vols, BOM and Staff...

The Chairperson of Rainbow Support Services has called a meeting on the 18th of March for all the Volunteers, Board of Managment and Paid Staff. It will be held in the drop - in space at our new premises on Foxes Bow, Willian Street (second alley to your left) Limerick City at 6.00 pm. Attendence by all is required.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Well, how have you been?

We've been good.

Recently we've moved premises and we're now located on Foxes Bow, in Limerick City, right over Brightside.

We've moved because we're trying to cut costs as much as we can to make what little bit of funding we have at the moment streach that little bit further.

We started moving stuff on Tuesday last the 2nd of March 2010, we'd a few Volunteers along to help out with the move, namely Adam, Tim and Robert. Our Chairperson and her partner showed up and Cecily our Youth Worker changed around her days so that she would also be there to lend a hand. Vanessa the coordinator and Janet our administrator were also working very hard at clearing the old place and setting up the new one.

Wedensday was spent putting together desks and re-filling our filing cabinets, as well as trying to clear the drop - in space in time for our drop - in group that thursday.

Thursday was spent unpacking boxes and finding places for everything, its amazing how much space we've gotten for the deal we made with the landlord.

Friday saw the telephone lines being connected and the news that the e-mail won't be up and properly working for the next 10 days, we can still check it tho so e-mail us at rainbowlmk@eircom.net if you need anything, or here at rainbowsupportserviceslimerick@gmail.com.

Monday sees the first BOM meeting in the new premises with the entire BOM being in the building for the first time since we moved in.

Rainbow Support Services also has an OUT REACH programe which means if you live outside of limerick city and can't get in for one reason or another, either you can't drive, or are disabled, or not out but want to talk to someone, that a member of staff will be willing to meet up with you and chat in usually an non - alcoholic venue then you can ring and request this. Number is: 061-310101

We have a helpline that operates from our switchboard room, this is operational 9 - 5 from the office mon - thurs, 9 - 4 on a friday, and specifically on Tuesday Nights 7.30 - 9.00 from 061-310101

If you are in need of counciling and don't know who to talk to, Rainbow Support Services can put you in touch with Counselors who are either Gay or Gay Freindly. If you need this service call us @ 061-310101 and we would be willing to help set you up.

Lunch Hour is between 1.00 and 2.00 in the afternoon.

If you cannot reach someone on this number during the day or in the evening, please don't dispair, or be upset, this means that you've either rang during lunch, or everyone is on a call, or they've gone out on an outreach.

If you call up to the office and the door is locked the same reasoning should apply. (also, sometimes the door is closed to keep the drafts and cold out, our Admin is on her 3rd cold since November, so just knock).

If any of these situations occur, contact RSS through their e-mail which is rainbowlmk@eircom.net and we will promptly get back to you.

We also have a website that you can contact us through which is http://www.rainbowsupportservices.org/

Also I should mention, that we are an information contact point as well, which is why we ask all venues in Limerick, Gay, LGBTQ and Gay Freindly to contact us with details of any upcoming events, such as the VeryAngryGirls preforming at Curious - Limerick Ladies Night @ Riddlers or the Club Launch Night in Cocoon, or La Boutiques date card, as well as confessions (Madonna, when is confessions back? We've had a few calls from some fans of it), or hill walking, or cycling, or the running club that has been mentioned here.

We can also help find you solicitors, doctors, and of course, Rainbow Retreats, who I can personally vouch for when you want a good deal, and personal service, who are located at 26 catherine street. THO WE AREN'T A DATING SERVICE.

Okay, I think that's just about everything.

We are here to support the LGBTQ community in the Limerick and Mid - Western region. We look forward to hearing and seeing you, the members of the Limerick, LGBTQ community.

For more information contact RSS @ 061-310101

Volunteers Party On Last Thursday UPDATE

An extended thank you to all the volunteers that showed up to the volunteer party last thursday, to Vanessa, Janet and Cecily who came along to the party, to all those who brought a pot luck dish (sandwiches to beat the band), and to Triona Shoer for supplying the delicious Rainbow Cake.

I arrived late, somehow thinking it was to kick off at 7.30, when it had started around 7. Some of the youth group vols played tekken (seems to be popular), while others sat and chatted about loads of stuff and mainly the upcoming calender that we're doing for fundraising.

It was a great night, and a nice showing, again, thank you all.

Gina Molloy - Chair.

RSS - UPDATE

It's no secret that all the community groups around Ireland are experiencing difficulty, and RSS is no different. At the moment we are looking at ways to raise funding as we are in a wee bit of a sticky situation.

We do realise that everyone is in the same boat and we're not asking people to fork out ridiculous ammounts of money, but we are asking you to try and support us when ever and in which ever way you can.

We are aware that everyone is organising fundraisers, and some are more deserving in your eyes than others, but we'd like you to think of us if you are donating money this year, and next. Please contact us if you are intrested in helping out, or donating anything the number is:
